January News and the Year ahead

More than before in 2024 - Changes to event dates and National Final

Welcome back to the new year Golfers! Over the off season, we have been working hard to work through timing of Club events, International Pairs Australia Qualifying rounds and the International Pairs World Finals.

Starting the New year off with some important updates.

Moving forward and starting in January 2024, the International Pairs Australia season will now run more in line with the Australian golf season.

  • Qualifying rounds will start January 1st through to December 31st each year.
  • Regional and/or State Finals will start from October through to December.
  • The National Final will be held late February/early March of the following year.
  • Winners of the 2024 National Finals, will travel to the 2025 World Final Tournament in October or November 2025 (dates to be confirmed).

There are two primary reasons for the changes:

It is much cooler during this time of year in Queensland for the National Final.

The scheduling gives players an extended period of time to arrange time off work, and provides players (if they woudl like to) with the opportunity to arrange an extended holiday before/after competing in the World Final. The timing also allows for other passionate golfers the opportunity to make travel plans to play in the Ryder Cup event (Ryder cup is a paid event).

2023 World Final Results

We reflect on the thrilling and competitive International Pairs World Finals held in the picturesque region of Obidos, Portugal, from 6th to 10th November 2023. In its second year in Australia, we are delighted to share the outstanding achievements of our three representative teams in the Men’s, Women’s, and Mixed Divisions.

Australian Representation: A Triumph of Skill and Spirit

Australia was well-represented across the Men’s, Women’s, and Mixed Divisions by three exceptional teams. These teams displayed unwavering dedication and skill throughout the challenging competition.

Women’s Champions – A.Cash-Tobin and T.Kelly (Windaroo Lakes Golf Club, QLD)

Against tough international competition and braving challenging course conditions, the Women’s Champions demonstrated remarkable prowess. Their outstanding performance secured a well-deserved 2nd place, a testament to their skill and determination.

Mixed Champions – M. and J. Deacon (Aston Hills Golf Club at Mount Barker, SA)

Representing Aston Hills Golf Club at Mount Barker, SA, the Mixed Champions showcased incredible teamwork and resilience. Their performance under pressure earned them the prestigious 3rd place in the Mixed Division, highlighting the depth of talent within the Australian golfing community.

Men’s Champions – G. McLean and J. Allen (Windaroo Lakes Golf Club, QLD)

The Men’s Pair also hailing from Windaroo Lakes Golf Club, QLD, exhibited exceptional golfing skills. Despite the challenging course conditions, they held their ground and competed fiercely moving up 7 places and securing a commendable 8th place finish in the Men’s Division.

As we celebrated the achievements of our Australian teams in the International Pairs World Finals, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Anna, Tracy, Mark, Jodie, Geoff and Jimmy. Your dedication and sportsmanship not only brought honour to our nation but also inspired the golfing community at large.

Flag Ceremony: A Proud Moment for Australia

Our teams stood tall and proud, enthusiastically representing Australia during the flag ceremony, standing alongside players from across the globe – a symbolic event that brought nations together in the spirit of friendly competition and unity. The diversity and sportsmanship on display during the ceremony exemplified the true essence of the International Pairs World Finals.

2023 Ryder Cup Experience

As if the Australian presence wasn’t already prominent, all representatives from Australia had the rare privilege of rubbing shoulders with past Ryder Cup golf legends Constantino Rocca, Eddie Polland, and Manuel PiΓ±ero, during the 2023 International Pairs Ryder Cup Championship.

The International Pairs World Finals 2023 provided a platform for our Australian teams to showcase their talent, sportsmanship, and camaraderie on an international stage. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to participants from around the world and look forward to continued success in the world of golf.

We were excited to have Dave and Brendan (husband’s to the fabulous Women’s Pair) from Windaroo Lakes joining the Australian representation and played in the Ryder Cup experience, meeting and having personal coaching lessons from some of the Worlds greats.
